Langzeitbelichtungen - Nocturnal Waterscapes. This series documents public spaces near lakes and other bodies of water in and around Berlin, Germany, at night. It is composed of a series of analog photographs, with exposures lasting several hours, using time itself as a means of expression. This project is inspired by the absence of a lake — in fact, of a whole basin system, which is the origin of today’s Mexico City. This lake exists only as a concept, in the nostalgia of those of us who grew up there, as it was made to disappear a long time ago.
Mexico City, once Tenochtitlán, the important center of the Aztec Empire, was founded on an islet of that lake ingrained in our memory. Its waters, which for centuries were fought to prevent them from overflowing the city, were finally defeated in the 20th century, leading to the almost total disappearance of the basin system of the Valley of Mexico.
